Catullus V-Active Learning -

Download this episode (3 min)

Welcome to Latinum, the Latin language learning podcasts from London.
Follow along and repeat Catullus V out loud after Bob Sonkowsky.

Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
rumoresque senum severiorum
omnes unius aestimemus assis!
soles occidere et redire possunt:
nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux,
nox est perpetua una dormienda.
da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum.
dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
aut ne quis malus inuidere possit,
cum tantum sciat esse basiorum.

I love this poem by Catullus. The more I read him the more I find to admire. Certain lines, like "soles occidere et redire possunt" and "nox est perpetua una dormienda" remind me of John Keats for their compact use of the language and their imagery.
